Why Do I Want an Ozonator

First of all, what is ozone? Ozone is a gas which is produced when oxygen is exposed to ultraviolet light. It is the same gas that creates the protective ozone layer found in the earth’s stratosphere.

How does it work in my hot tub?

When ozone is injected into hot tub water, it helps to sanitize the water by destroying most of the bacteria and viruses that may be present. Ozone also helps break down body oils and other biodegradable materials to keep the pure, clear and “feel good” water you want in your hot tub. Because ozone purification is 200 times more powerful than standard sanitizers, you will use less chemicals in your hot tub over the long term as the ozone kills the majority of the bacteria. This is also of great benefit to hot tub users prone to skin, nasal and eye irritations associated with high concentrations of chlorine.

How do ozonators work?

Ozone generators contain either an ultraviolet light bulb or an electronic corona discharge device that converts oxygen to ozone. The ozone gas is routed through an air line connected to a water jet. The water running through the jet creates a venturi which pulls the ozone into the hot tub water during its filtration cycle.

Is it safe?

Absolutely! The only byproduct of ozone is oxygen – no chemical residues! The ozone generated by your hot tub ozonator is dissolved into the water, has no adverse effects on humans and does not contribute to any type of air pollution.

How long do they last?

Ozonators do wear out, just like tires on a car. They will last for a few years and then begin to fail.

How will I know when it’s time to replace the ozone unit?

You will notice that without the sanitizing power of the ozone, your water chemistry will change and organic matter can build up quickly. However, no need to worry! Most ozonators are relatively simple to replace! Many hot tub owners can do this themselves or it’s a quick service call from your local technician.

Ozonators are one of the most effective ways of sanitizing your hot tub water to maintain the fresh, crystal clear hot tub water you want! In addition to clear water maintenance, ozonators are a cost saving addition to any hot tub as they reduce the need for expensive chemicals by killing most of the bacteria and microbial agents on contact.
